As I write this and as you read it, millions of people the world over are starving and yet the number of malnourished persons worldwide is steadily declining as it has been for years. This is due to many factors such as increased crop yields, and perhaps in no small part to innovative agricultural techniques such as The System of Rice Intensification. Much to the chagrin of the muckrakers and doomsayers and pushers of trivialities in America’s free press, our small blue planet is, in many ways, becoming a better place to live for a larger number of people. That sound you hear is Malthus rolling over in his grave.
Poverty is the on the mid- to long-term path to extinction. Even the liberal Brookings Institute has displayed some cautious hope for the future, a heresy that stands in stark contrast to the doom and gloom dogma of the so-called “progressive” Left.
There’s a lot of good news out there, more than you might think. The world is coming together to save the Coral Reefs. The Miller babies are alive and healthy. On the topic of offspring, pandas are gettin’ busy again. There is cause for all of us to rejoice; by a number of metrics – great and small alike – it would seem we’re either on the cusp of or in the dawn of a new golden age.
And that’s when reality steps in and slaps us in the face. There are numerous reasons to rend our clothes and cover ourselves in sackcloth and ashes.
The “Democratic” People’s “Republic” of Korea has once again exhibited its usual obstinate hostility to the west by successfully test-firing a ballistic missile. There are also reasons to believe they may be on the way to miniaturizing a nuclear weapon for the purpose of fitting it on one of these missiles. There’s no silver lining to this development. North Korea is an authoritarian state characterized by both the corruption of its criminal ruling regime and the religious fanaticism of its brainwashed people. The idea of the Kim dynasty getting its hands on weapons of mass destruction and the means by which to launch them against our western shore is frightening. The days of laughing at these savages are long gone. There’s nothing funny about this and maybe there never was.
The Japan Meteorological Agency says there’s no risk of tsunami from the magnitude 5.6 quake that hit off the coast of Fukushima. This isn’t the first quake to rattle Fukushima since the 2011 disaster that sent waves of radiation plunging into the Pacific Ocean and Japanese countryside and it won’t be the last. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before the world’s worst nightmare occurs and another major quake exacerbates the catastrophe beyond the horrors it has already wrought. The confluence of technology and mother nature’s unrivaled scorn have birthed a rolling nightmare for our allies in the far east and for the world at large. The muckrakers don’t like to talk about it much, but they should. It is as important to face the nightmarish music of this planet as it is to ease our minds with stories of healthy quadruplets and fornicating Ailuropoda melanoleuca.
Planet Earth is a double-edged sword. Both edges are equally sharp and equally significant. That’s why it’s so disappointing to peruse the news and find it poisoned by some bullshit fake story about Kellyanne Conway sitting on her knees on a couch in the Oval Office. It’s not fake in that it didn’t happen, it’s fake in that it’s completely inconsequential. (Did you know President Trump eats his steak with ketchup?!? The humanity!!!) You wouldn’t know it from reading the commentary on the subject.
NBC says Miss Conway’s infraction “sparks debate.” The Boston Globe echoed NBC’s distraction tactics though to their credit they didn’t spend much time on it in writing though the headline is certainly unbecoming of an allegedly legitimate news organization.
The New York Times, ABC news, The Washington Post, and Slate, among others, joined the fray with their respective two cents. One can only imagine the man hours and money wasted on covering what may at best be described as a non-story.
Muckrakers know full well the true purpose of disseminating fake news: Distracting from real news. Miss Conway’s posture related scandal was the perfect diversion from the true purpose of the occasion being photographed, that is, President Trump signing an executive order that could potentially direct some $25 billion to Historically Black Colleges and Universities, a massive increase over the paltry $4 billion disbursed by the Obama administration. The mainstream media, driven by the insidious liberal agenda, cannot allow such a development to become news. It ruins the slanderous fiction of President Trump’s nonexistent racism.
I’m thinking people know the difference between drivel like “Couchgate” and what’s really important but they appear to be a minority these days. There’s more than enough fertile soil in which this stupidity can take root and it’s a damning indictment of America’s press and the people who eat this garbage up with a spoon as if it’s worth the time to write it and the time to read it.
A free press is not an enemy of the people; theoretically, it’s an indispensable part of our republic and unique system of democracy. But the purveyors of this trash, the NYT, ABC, NBC, and the other bottom-feeding acronyms that push fake news, are most certainly the enemy of our nation. When a truly free press is substituted for a cadre of tawdry trash peddlers our system may be said to be in real danger of dissolution.
The Kellyanne Conway story is rubbish but it shouldn’t be ignored because it reveals a real story beneath the slimy surface. The real story is that our free press has been replaced in large part by a pack of con men. The real story is that real stories – good and bad, great and small – are being buried by easily consumed refuse for a mass of people who can’t be bothered to read much more than provocative headlines and then regurgitate them as though they’re gospel. “Couchgate” may make for good click bait but it belies the truth of our media: A press populated by dishonest muckrakers who push detritus instead of truly newsworthy reporting is no friend to our nation and neither are those readers who whole-heartedly support this subversive effort against the integrity of our republic.
