President Donald Trump has fired White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci at the request of new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, according to a report by Politico.
The White House also released a statement to the media saying that Scaramucci would be leaving in order to give “give Chief of Staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team.”
This comes as a shock to many observers, given Scaramucci was appointed by President Trump as Communications Director just ten days ago, and has since successfully ousted RNC affiliated White House aides including Press Secretary Sean Spicer, Assistant Press Secretary Michael Short, and Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.
During his brief tenure as Communications Director, Scaramucci dominated headlines due to his confrontational and unorthodox approach to both the media and his opponents within the administration. He declared that he would “fire everybody” in an effort to reduce leaks coming from the White House, while repeatedly leaking to reporters himself.
Scaramucci’s removal will no doubt please the White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon, who was described by Jonathan Swan of Axios as “working to destroy Scaramucci.” Scaramucci had previously lambasted Bannon during a foul-mouthed rant to the New Yorker‘s Ryan Lizza, during which he also announced Priebus’ departure from the White House.
For conservatives, this development may be good news. Scaramucci was regarded as an ally of the President’s liberal son-in-law, Jared Kushner and had advocated for progressive causes such as gun control. Scaramucci also previously supported Barack Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns.
lol what a train wreck.
Right move. Yes.
