Rand Paul Votes To Proceed With Health Care Motion

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has stated that President Donald Trump is a very persuasive man, and it showed today as Paul jumped on the Trump Train–so to speak–to advance floor debate in the Senate with the hopes of repealing and replacing Obamacare.

“I’m very happy to announce that with zero of the Democrats’ votes, the motion to proceed on health care has moved past and now we move forward toward truly great health care for the American people. We look forward to that. This was a big step,” Trump said at a White House news conference after the vote.

Trump also gave special thanks to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) who returned after being diagnosed with brain cancer to vote in favor of the legislation. It required Vice President Mike Pence to cast the tie-breaking vote in the measure’s favor to pass after the Senate was deadlocked in a 50-50 tie after Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) joined Democrats to vote against the measure.

“I want to thank Sen. John McCain,” Trump said. “A very brave man. He made a tough trip to get here.”

Paul was one of the final holdouts including Sens. Dean Heller (R-NV), Rob Portman (R-OH) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV). They each jumped on board at the last minute to move the motion forward. Although Paul jumped on board for this particular vote, he is still intent on pushing for a full repeal of Obamacare without bailing out insurance companies.

“If this is indeed the plan, I will vote to proceed and I will vote for any all measures that are clean repeal,” Paul said in a Tweet.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) called the legislation the “cruelest, most destructive and irresponsible piece of legislation ever brought to the United States Senate in the modern history of this country.” If Paul has his way, the legislation is going to become even crueler from the perspective of the socialist demagogue with three houses to his name.

  1. He has said he will vote NO on the bill if it’s the awful leadership version. Not a change in stance at all, just maneuvering to have a chance to get an improved version or a clean repeal.

  2. What change? He voted to move forward on debate and will vote for repeal but not the god awful replacement. the only “change” is that it is a step closer to repeal.

  3. Somebody needs to actually pay attention to what’s going on. Rand has not changed his position since his original campaign in 2009.

    • Actually, it doesn’t seem like any of the people commented read the story or even understand the issue at hand.

  4. Disingenuous headlines are very unbecoming and the reason why clickbait sites and fake news articles are a dying breed…Much more from this site and your credibility will be on zero….#StandWithRand

  5. Liberty Conservative I question your motives with this fake story. Like others have said he voted to continue the debate on repealing the law, not the law itself.

  6. So great to see these comments.. thank you folks for not falling for this! Senator Paul is one of our last Constitutional holdours . Not sure where this page’s politics lies… but it’s credibility just nosedived.
