Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price resigns

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price has been facing an onslaught of criticism from both sides of the aisle in recent days. A series of reports surfaced showing lavish spending on expensive private jets instead of more cost efficient commercial travel. The shock ranged from partisan attacks by Democrats and shocked Republicans who always knew Secretary Price as a fiscal hawk in Congress.

News has just broken that Secretary Price has offered his resignation, however. President Donald Trump has accepted the resignation, concluding the Secretary’s downfall from budget hawk to big spender.

Prior to the announcement, The Liberty Conservative had reported President Trump was considering firing the embattled Health and Human Services Secretary. The President was reportedly blindsided by the reports and the general mood in the White House was disgust.

Yesterday, Secretary Price had attempted to calm the controversy by offering to partially reimburse the lavish spending. Though a sizable offering, it still wasn’t the full reimbursement and many did not accept the peace offering.

The scandal has been just another controversy in a long line of problems that have distracted the Trump Administration over the last year from moving its agenda forward. It is not clear how President Trump will proceed from here or handle the scandal with Secretary Price out of the picture. Though the Secretary is now gone, the fact that the tax dollars were still spent remains.
