Justin Amash Joins RINOs & Democrats To Secure Military Transgender Funding

Representative Justin Amash, a self described fiscal conservative, and 23 other so-called Republicans joined together with Democrats to shoot down an amendment proposed by Missouri Rep. Vicky Hartzler that could potentially have saved upwards of $1.3 billion over the next decade by prohibiting the Pentagon from paying for surgeries and hormone therapy for mentally ill soldiers who are confused about what sex they are.

Voting along with all 190 Democrats present and Justin Amash were Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who has a transgender son, as well as anti-Trump moderate Carlos Curbelo and Planned Parenthood apologist John Katko.

Hartzler maintained the amendment was intended to focus the attention of the U.S. military on confronting the nation’s adversaries — such as North Korea, Russia and the Islamic State — instead of other tasks.

“We must confront these challenges by ensuring our defense dollars maximize the military’s readiness and lethality,” Hartlzer said. “That is why I’m offering an amendment to advance these goals by prohibiting taxpayer dollars from funding gender reassignment surgeries and related hormone therapy treatment for members of the military and their dependents.”

While the no votes from moderate and liberal members of the Republican caucus aren’t too surprising, especially given the media hysteria on all transgender related issues, it is the latest vote in Rep. Amash’s uncharacteristically un-conservative streak. Just last month, Amash was the only Republican ‘no’ vote against Kate’s Law, and one of the few Republican ‘no’ votes against the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act. He’s also been a leading critic of the Trump administration in the Republican Party.

Amash has already been put on notice for his anti-Trump rhetoric with White House Director of Social Media Dan Scavino tweeting earlier this year that Amash was a “big liability” and that he should be targeted for defeat in 2018 by another Republican. It will be interesting to see if a true fiscal conservative steps up to the plate to challenge Amash in the next few months.

    • Jim Dunn, of you’ll notice I never said that.

I just think it’s funny that this page spends a lot more time attacking Amash than they do Trump. Amash’s faults are small-potatoes compared to Trump’s.

  1. Stop destroying the military that has been a haven from all this social chaos. Why do they need more money to wear the wrong close. You know that think hind of behavior to some people is like wearing Klan Hoods…

  2. If people can’t wear the uniform correctly they have no business being the military it is not about your perversion which many are against regulation but meeting the very basic standards of conduct and basically you can’t be a pervert.

  3. Just think two of the three traitors we had Manning and Chastity hope (or whatever) had gender issues. If you can’t figure something so basic how can you be trusted with other people’s lives and national security.

  4. not on my tax dollar you don’t…americans hard earned taxes are being used for the most sickening things……maybe it is time for americans to stop paying taxes until this crap is done away with

  5. Lol… oh stop. Here is a response from Justin. “That headline is fake news. The underlying bill says nothing about transgender individuals, and voting no on the amendment expends no money.”

    • Then why did Massie vote against it? I read the bill that Massie put a link to and it most def did say that the military would NOT pay for transgender surgeries.
You need to stop trusting Amash.

    • Massie and Amash are allies. They are also individuals with unique perspectives, This is much ado about nothing. Trump and Sec. Mattis asked for a ‘no’ vote on the amendment so they could craft a strategy that is within the legit authority of the executive branch. Folks need to chill.

  6. Does anyone know his rationale for this vote? Usually when he behaves out of character, it has something to do with some obscure Constitutional law. Kate’s law for example, he determined to be unconstitutional on at least 3 grounds. So you have to dig deeper to understand why he votes as he does sometimes. This may be a similar case. At the moment, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

  7. No excuse for this happening. We are watching the culture of our nation change before our eyes! Shameful, shocking and evil.

  8. This is fake.

Here is the response I just received from Justin Amash.

“Rudy, that headline is fake news. Sec. Mattis and the White House oppose the amendment. They are working on a policy and want an opportunity to craft it. The underlying bill says nothing about transgender individuals, and voting no on the amendment expends no money. I think it’s reasonable to support the Trump administration’s position under the circumstances. The highest ranking member of the Armed Forces in the House, Rep. Jack Bergman, also voted no.”
