Immigration is a hot button issue. The rise of candidate Donald Trump and his ascension to the White House escalated the controversy surrounding illegal immigration. Under the previous administration of Barack Obama, those who resided here illegally were given greater leniency as undocumented immigrants.
When Trump criticized those who could not enter our country lawfully, he was torn to shreds for it by the liberal press. For many pro-illegal immigration liberals, this is a humanitarian issue. Laws regarding immigration are irrelevant when lives are at stake.
The issue is a humanitarian issue, but the complicated legal issue runs much deeper than what liberals will recognize. Illegal immigrants generally aren’t rejected because conservatives want them to die. Our laws aren’t in existence simply to oppress foreigners who wish to enter our country. Instead, they exist for domestic security. We have a process for vetting those who wish to enter our country to ensure that they will be productive members of society.
But protecting America is a humanitarian crisis. As the narrative goes, the floodgates must open or else we’re heartless. Lives are at stake. So what happens when an illegal immigrant is in the United States seeking an abortion?
A court battle broke out over an illegal immigrant seeking to abort her unborn child, as the Trump administration sought to block the procedure. The usual suspects were there in defense of the abortion and illegal immigration, such as the American Civil Liberties Union. For the life of these people, they could not understand why the Trump administration would block an abortion for an illegal immigrant.
For starters, the illegal immigrant shouldn’t be in the United States in the first place. Why do illegal immigrants come to the United States in the first place? To escape death, according to the leftists.
The rights of an unborn child are generally meaningless to the American left. A series of callous arguments are generally made to justify an inhumane procedure against a human being that can feel the pain. For an illegal immigrant to be here illegally to escape dangerous conditions and want to subject an unborn child to such horrors is unfathomable.
If the illegal immigrant isn’t here to escape conditions that threaten her life, why are they in the United States in the first place? What is the reason they could not return to their home country or simply enter our country through the legal procedures?
This issue puts two issues front and center. First, what conditions, if any, justify a foreigner illegally entering the country and residing here? Second, do these conditions justify seeking to put an unborn child through inhumane procedures to end their life painfully?
Life is important, which is ultimately the point of the American left. If this is the case, then what about an unborn child? Why are those who violate the law and enter the country illegally given a free pass, but young children unable to defend themselves are freely executed? There is no consistency from the left on the issue of law and life, and this case clearly highlights that.
