Libertarian Civil Rights Official Stands Up for Men’s Rights in Universities

Libertarian activist Candice E. Jackson was recently appointed by President Donald Trump as the top civil rights official in the Department of Education. In her role, she is trying to address the oft-taboo issue of men’s rights on college campuses, where feminists and other leftists have worked to create a culture of hysteria against males.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos heard it from all sides throughout the day. She met with assault victims, students who were accused of assault alongside their families, higher education officials, and advocates from both sides of the aisle. While DeVos maintains her objectivity, Jackson is an outspoken advocate for the falsely accused. She says that there is “not even an accusation that these accused students overrode the will of a young woman” in most campus sexual assault claims.

“Rather, the accusations — 90 percent of them — fall into the category of ‘we were both drunk,’ ‘we broke up, and six months later I found myself under a Title IX investigation because she just decided that our last sleeping together was not quite right,’” Jackson said.

Jackson is a sexual assault victim herself, according to a New York Times article referencing her background. Her troubled past did not cause her to lose empathy for the wrongly accused, who she frequently represented in a lawyer in private practice before accepting a role in the Trump administration.

“Listening to her talk about walking in and finding him in the middle of trying to kill himself because his life and his future were gone, and he was forever branded a rapist — that’s haunting,” Jackson said regarding a story she heard from a mother whose son’s life was ruined because of a false sexual assault accusation.

Jackson wants to reform the Title IX system that she believes has been abused to create a system that is perpetually hostile to the accused.

“In principle, there is no reason to depart from setting up a Title IX discipline process on campus that is anything other than fairly balanced and doesn’t prejudge and weight the system in favor of a finding. We don’t do that in our court system, our criminal justice system, and I see no reason why we would want to do it in a campus system either,” Jackson said.

Jackson is a long-time libertarian activist and critic of the Clinton family. She authored Their Lives: Women Targeted by the Clinton Machine in 2005, and helped orchestrate a press conference before a Presidential debate last year in which Trump appeared with many of former President Bill Clinton’s alleged victims. Additionally, she is an ardent fan of Austrian economist Murray N. Rothbard, writing two separate papers praising the eminent libertarian’s works. She even helped edit his collected essays while completing a summer fellowship at the Ludwig von Mises Institute.
