Mitt Romney embodies the reason why Donald Trump won

This has been a bizarre and unpredictable election cycle that has taken a number of unforeseen turns. All of these wild months later, Republican Donald Trump is the President-Elect preparing to inherit the free world in January. Just as they failed to predict the results of the general election, pundits still fail to understand why President-Elect Donald Trump came to be.

Are most Americans misogynistic racists, as the mainstream media would lead us all to believe? Most certainly not.

To understand the reason why such a controversial, uncensored personality could become President of the United States of America, it’s important to understand what voters rejected. Former Massachusetts Governor and twice failed Republican candidate for President Mitt Romney is an excellent case study.

Just months ago, back in the Spring, Romney would become the new face of the anti-Trump movement. This movement of desperate Republicans was seeking a credible front to stop the bombastic businessman from turning Cleveland into a coronation. Speculation mounted that Romney would mount a late challenge as he called a press conference to address the primary’s dark turn.

Instead of running again, Romney went on a rant about Trump and urged voters to reject him. He stated that there are options out there and people should consider them. Romney would begin weeks of apocalyptic rhetoric depicting Trump as essentially the second worst thing in the universe next to Satan.

This has all changed, however.

The two-time presidential candidate and famous Anti-Trump crusader met with the new President-Elect himself to play golf. According to both Romney and Trump, the two had good conversations regarding the country and the incoming administration. Rumors are circulating that Trump is preparing to offer Secretary of State to Romney, who is now singing the praises of Trump.

What changed? Political opportunism.

Mitt Romney represents the worst kind of politician. He has no intellectual consistency, no principled stability, and is fluid with the seasons. His political positions have always changed with the season. When he was running for United States Senate against Ted Kennedy, he did so by attempting to run to the left of the popular Democrat. As Governor of Massachusetts, Romney would advance the healthcare legislation that Obamacare would be modeled after. He also signed an assault weapons ban into law.

Yet when running for President of Massachusetts, plus forty-nine other states, the game changes. Romney needed the Republican nomination before becoming the leader of the free world and thus would have to leave his Massachusetts home on the left. Dancing towards the right, he attempted to remake his image as a conservative.

Romney shapes his political image as opportunity dictates. Of course, he is not the only one. In fact, many politicians operate like this. Through election cycles, polls will show which issues are the most concerning and approval numbers will show what behaviors work. Based on these numbers, politicians dance to whatever song sounds right.

And it’s because of people like Mitt Romney that people rejected the 2016 political class and everything they had to throw out for President of the United States. Americans are tired of the spineless politicians who are devoid of integrity.

  1. Trump won based on his celebrity look for this to be a trend. Opara will run for the Democrats. We have dummed down the American people a real thoughtful brilliant candidate like Romney is ignored.

    • Your post proves the point that you were making about the American people being “dummed” down. And who is “Opara?”

  2. Romney wasn’t thoughtful at all. He was a bullshit artist who didn’t seem to realize being an inoffensive milquetoast version of your opponent won’t defeat an incumbent.

  3. I did not vote for Romney, but he would be preferable to Bolton and Giuliani for state, who never met a war they don’t like.

HOWEVER, it is bad enough that Americans elected a president who said that if he told Romney to get on his knees and __________ , he would have. But the idea that Romney would seriously consider working for that guy is disgusting.
