The rise of businessman Donald Trump from improbable candidate to President of the United States has triggered an entire movement of political paranoia. His style threatens the emotions of those accustomed to standard politics. Instead of being a cheap plastic face with slick hair and manufactured sound bites, he’s an imperfect image and unregulated personality. For many who require the assurance of uneventful normalcy, this is devastating.
The result has been relentless attacks. While it is fair to criticize an individual who enters the arena prepared to take heat, there are boundaries. The unfortunate reality is that sometimes spouses get roped into the mix. First Lady Melania Trump has been attacked by bitter Democrats and former First Lady Michelle Obama was often the target of conservative criticism.
It happens and it’s something those close to a prominent figure must prepare for. Is there a boundary, though?
Many Trump critics have now moved past President Trump and the First Lady, setting their sights on others in their family. Specifically, the next target is ten-year-old Barron Trump.
Saturday Night Live once was a comedy television show but has since been reduced to a liberal propaganda outlet. It has been a consistent voice for the Left while criticizing the Right. So it comes as no surprise when NBC fails to act when a writer on the show goes after the young Trump.
Katie Rich took to Twitter to slam Barron Trump, stating the young ten-year-old will be the nation’s first “homeschool shooter.”
It is appalling that Rich felt the need to take out her political disagreements with an adult on a child. It is disgusting that she felt it was appropriate to attack a ten-year-old child at all. But perhaps the most disturbing part of this entire saga is the silence of NBC, the network that airs Saturday Night Live.
On the one hand, this is astounding. On the other hand, it’s not entirely surprising. Saturday Night Live has continued to run Alec Baldwin as one of their star appeals. This is the same Alec Baldwin that felt it was appropriate to leave a nasty voicemail message for his daughter when she was just eleven, calling her a “thoughtless little pig” while attacking her mother.
Baldwin’s spokesperson at the time justified the language used in the video by noting what Kim Basinger had put him through. Essentially, Baldwin’s defense is the same logic that Rich used: another adult’s actions justify attacking a young child.
What does NBC have against children? Does NBC feel it’s suitable to employ those who feel attacking children is appropriate?
Alec Baldwin is the precedent for Katie Rich to keep her job on Saturday Night Live and at the network. The amount of profanity used against his young daughter while being hurtful and offensive was appalling. This stood as no problem, just as it apparently isn’t a problem that Rich attacked a ten-year-old Barron Trump.
When it comes to integrity and opposing bullying against children, NBC prefers the political bias and ratings.
