Rep. DeSantis Calls For Congress To End Phony Trump-Russia Investigation

A prominent Congressman is finally stepping up, and calling for an end to the Trump-Russia hysteria that Democrats–and even some Never Trump Republicans–have been pushing ever since Trump beat Hillary Clinton last November.

“Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein defended against criticism of his handling of the amorphous “Russia investigation” by saying that the Department of Justice “doesn’t engage in fishing expeditions.” Yet, his clumsy management of this matter is the reason why many Americans are concerned that the investigation lacks focus and will veer into unrelated matters, thereby extending the probe far into the future and hampering the ability of the Trump administration to attend to the people’s business,” Rep. Ron DeSantis said in a FOX News op/ed released last week.

DeSantis is calling on Congress to limit the scope of the Trump-Russia investigation by denying funding to “any matters that precede the commencement of the 2016 presidential campaign.” This will prevent the investigation from becoming even more of a fishing expedition than it already has become, according to DeSantis. He also wants Congress to terminate funding after a specific date so the investigation does not run any longer than is prudent.

“There was never a clear basis from which to establish a special counsel in the first place, but we are where we are and it is in the public’s interest that this investigation be focused in scope and limited in duration,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis’ opinion comes in stark contrast of Republican lawmakers such as Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) and Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) who have lent credence to the cheap partisan fearmongering of the Democrats. Amash even implied he would be open to impeaching Trump after disgraced former FBI director James Comey was fired by the President earlier this year. DeSantis is not afraid to stick his neck out there and fight members of his own party in order to rebuke the vile neo-McCarthyism that is corroding our politics.

“Congress can and should use its power of the purse to impose guardrails on the investigation. The congressional corollary to the Rosenstein admonition that the DOJ doesn’t conduct fishing expeditions should be that the Congress will not fund fishing expeditions,” DeSantis said.

  1. Isn’t Devon Nunes supposed to be finished with his ethics investigation by now? So he can go back to being in charge of the House Intelligence Committee investigation into Russian collusion? And wrap the whole damn thing up?
