Senator Bernie Sanders Opposes Impeachment Of President Donald Trump

/

Impeachment has become a hot button topic for liberal and progressive activists. In their view, the President is wrecking America with his constant criticisms of the mainstream media and unconventional political approach. In some of the most extreme views, Trump is showing an increasingly unstable temperament, which raises concern about his mental competency. In the view of the left, we’re entering dangerous territory.

Yet when impeachment hit the floor, many Democrats opposed the measure. Leadership in the Democratic Party remains staunchly opposed to removal of the President. It presents an interesting point, when most on the left describe potentially impeachable offenses while refusing to impeach.

And now add Senator Bernie Sanders to the list of those opposed to impeachment.

In an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” the Independent Senator from Vermont stated that Congress should not rush to impeach and that he hasn’t committed an impeachable offense. Is that true? Perhaps it is true, but in the eyes of the unhinged left, he has.

The Congress states the President can be removed for “high crimes and misdemeanors.” In the view of the founding fathers, this was not always perceived to include criminal offenses. The phrase could apply to non-criminal offenses, such as being unfit to serve in the position.

Democrats, if they bothered to learn the original interpretation of the Constitution, could pursue their case. If Senator Sanders knew much about the Constitution he swore an oath to uphold, he could endorse pursuing the process.

Impeachment provides an interesting scenario for both political parties. Even though it is a process that would be utilized against a Republican politician, it actually helps the Republicans more than the Democrats. Democrats are generally uncommitted to any action on their word, which leads any impeachment effort spinning in the dirt.

Do Democrats actually believe the rhetoric they are feeding to the public?

If Democrats actually believed President Trump was dangerously unstable with the nuclear codes, one would think they’d have greater urgency to remove him from office. Who would want a mentally unstable individual with the power to launch nukes?

Is it entirely possible that Democrats don’t actually believe President Trump is that bad and are just feeding into this absurd hyperbole for partisan gain?

Many Democrats also allege the President is at war with free press for his criticisms of the mainstream media. Free press is covered under the First Amendment though. A President cannot simply shut down the media. Does President Trump criticizing certain outlets count as an attack on the free press? After all, he has free speech rights too.

If the President is truly out to end the free press as we know it, that is an attack on the Constitution and cause for removal. But Democrats won’t embrace removal. Why?

Perhaps what the Democrats and Senator Bernie Sanders know is their hyperbole isn’t the law. Their words make for good mainstream media headlines and internet soundbites, but it isn’t a legal argument. The Democrats either are incapable of action or just don’t believe enough in their own rhetoric.

Senator Bernie Sanders continues to fit in with the Democratic Party just fine.

  1. Bernie agrees. Pence would be worse for the left than Trump in future elections. Why oust a divisive figure before you can use the hatred towards him electorally.
