Trumpocalypse in the Making?: The President Weighs Axing Four Key Aides

President Donald Trump is getting restless. His agenda has stalled, his approval rating is cratering, and the Washington D.C. establishment won’t play ball. A report has indicated a serious shake-up is likely on its way, and many heads may roll.

“The advice he’s getting is to go big — that he has nothing to lose,” a source close to Trump said, according to an Axios report. “The question now is how big and how bold. I’m not sure he knows the answer to that yet.”

The report claims that possible Trump administration officials in line to receive the axe include Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, chief strategist Steve Bannon, counsel Don McGahn, and press secretary Sean Spicer, but everything is up for grabs. Trump is supposedly ready for a big change, and that means nobody is safe.

“He’s frustrated, and angry at everyone,” one of Trump’s confidants said.

At the end of this week, Trump is leaving the United States and heading on his first international tour. The report suggests that the current structure of the White House will not be shaken up until after the trip concludes. They will be given “one more college try,” according to a trusted Trump ally, to get things right before Trump takes serious action.

Incongruent policy proposals such as Jared Kushner’s push for criminal justice reform while Attorney General Jeff Sessions calls for the restoration of mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines combined with a haphazard organizational style have been the hallmarks of Trump’s presidency in its early months. If his underlings fail to achieve cohesion very quickly, Trump will likely be saying, “You’re fired!” to many of his top officials in the weeks to come.
