We Can’t Be Friends

We will never forget 2016. A new Star Wars came out. Several celebrities passed on. Clemson upset #1 Alabama in the national championship game (still happy about that happening). The Cubs, for the first time since 1908, won the World Series. A great year all around. However, 2016 was most remembered for Donald John Trump’s victory for President. You see, the night of November 8, 2016, the third famous American political dynasty died — The Clinton Dynasty. Even I was stunned. However, while the world was seemingly being turned upside down, one thing remained: the hypocrisy and selfishness of the Left.

My conversion towards libertarianism begin in 2012 when my Uncle Gandalf (yes, that’s really his name) exposed me to Ron Paul. Ron Paul was saying things that begin to make sense for me. He was single-handedly smashing the Left and the Right on their sky-high lies and deception of the Amerian people. I was shown in that moment that the majority of the Right and Left didn’t care about truth. They cared about winning, and winning only. In 2012, Ted Cruz was elected to office in Texas. With his victory, the liberty trio was formed between him, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul. On many occasions I was intrigued by their selfless stand against both sides of the aisle. Then, in March of 2013, something happened that showed me how far the Left had gone on many issues.

Rand Paul stood for 13 hours, demanding that John Brennan answer about what he thought about Drone strikes against American citizens. Once Rand got his reply, he sat down. What struck me was the lack of democratic support. Not a single democrat stood with Rand Paul demanding answers. No Warren,  Sanders, or Boxer. Isn’t it strange how the Democratic Party hammered Bush over civil liberties, yet seemingly couldn’t find the time to stand with Rand Paul? The hypocrisy didn’t cease there. When it was time to re-new the Ex-IM bank charter, a Goliath of cronysim in America, Elizabeth Warren the “champion” of poor people, voted to renew the bank’s charter. And how could we forget that a California politician, pushing gun control, then got arrested for being involved in a gun smuggling ring? You see, the Left enjoys attacking conservatives and their ideas while riding around on their white high horses, parading around like they’ve arrived.

I personally opposed Trump because he and I simply disagreed on too much. Yet I find it ironic how the Left attacks Trump for doing what Obama did, without a fight. Obama, too, deported many immigrants. He was known as the deporter in chief. In the year 2011, Obama authorized a drone strike against a man suspected of terrorism and that man’s son was killed as collateral damage. Not a single democrat demanded answers. It was revealed that Obama even had a secret kill list, yet the only oppostion to it came from the ACLU. I’m not here to justify Obama or his bad politics. I’m not here to uplift Trump. I’m here to say that I will not stand side by side with people who are willing to watch government undermine the fundamental right of its citizens, as long as the person doing it is “their guy.” You see, I won’t be friends with people who are willing to lie, cheat, and steal to perserve power.

Let it also be said that  I won’t be friends with spineless Republicans either, because honestly, I’m upset with the Right too. Paul Ryan is offering up Obamacare-lite. What’s even worse, the details are being kept secret. The GOP is refusing to stand up and kill Obamacare altogether. Why? That’s easy – because they need to keep their friends happy, even at the expense of keeping their word.

I have no patience for either side as it currently stands. Both sides have shown us that they will do anything to keep in power. The time for friendship is over. It’s time to fight. It’s time to fight for America and her future. It’s time to wreck our debt, call our troops home, and begin to invest in America again. It’s time that we put aside trying to be popular, and start to do what’s right.
