President Trump is in the mood for heads to roll, and more shake-ups in the administration are expected. The next person expected to be sent to the unemployment line by Trump is National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, the neoconservative who has pushed for a more belligerent approach on foreign policy.
New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush claims that administration sources have indicated to him that Trump is considering replacing McMaster with CIA Director Mike Pompeo. McMaster, who replaced Mike Flynn in his role, has frequently annoyed Trump according to reports, and his incessant hawkishness is not always congruent with Trump’s “America First” agenda.
Additionally, John Kelly–upon replacing Reince Priebus as Chief of Staff–immediately used his power to fire Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci. Scaramucci’s ten day run in his role was filled with turmoil as he took to the press for a series of unhinged outbursts. Kelly, a retired military general who formerly served as Homeland Security Secretary, is expected to bring a sense of unity and order to a White House that desperately needs it.
Despite all of the mayhem, Trump continues to paint a rosy picture of his presidency and all of his accomplishments that he believes have helped the American people immeasurably.
Trump wrote the following in a Tweet yesterday morning, “Highest Stock Market EVER, best economic numbers in years, unemployment lowest in 17 years, wages raising, border secure, S.C.: No WH chaos!”
While there may be some truth to Trump’s statement, it is difficult to believe that there is no chaos going on in the midst of this shake-up. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has requested a short break amidst rumors that he may be on his way out of the State Department. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is another man who might be ousted after he has recently become a frequent target of Trump’s attacks.
If anyone was expecting the White House to settle down after Scaramucci’s dismissal, they should prepare to be disappointed. Trump’s bombastic leadership style will be creating drama and entertainment for Americans throughout the summer and beyond.
