For many, the thought of Donald Trump triggers a bitter and intense reaction. Though many of the Never Trump activists claim to be opposed to the vitriolic and violent rhetoric, there seems to be a growing use of the tactic in their own movement. This has been on full display again in Washington D.C., where the inauguration is mere hours away.
Reports have noted numerous arrests have occurred as protesters storm the streets. Protesters are starting fires in the street, shouting obscenities, and otherwise projecting an aggressive and negative presence upon the nation’s capital as the transition of power wraps up.
These protesters have also gotten violent towards other individuals, as The Liberty Conservative’s own associate editor James Allsup discovered.
Allsup described the events on his Twitter account after the incident.
After a blackout in the streets, he took his “Make America Great Again” hat off and ran his hand through his blood. His hands were red, covered in blood. After taking a pole to the back of the head, he was bleeding significantly. Allsup later indicated he would be receiving stitches for the incident and reporters are seeking the identity of the attacker.
This appears to be a disturbing trend. While those opposed to President-elect Trump claim to support tolerance and inclusiveness, there has been a growing hostility among the Never Trump crowd that is now being aggressive and violent.
Fortunately for Allsup, the damage wasn’t worse and the attack didn’t get even more out of hand.
This never should have happened. In the United States of America, we have the right to assemble and the right to free speech. In his political activity, just as he does in his writing and in life, he utilizes his right to free speech. It doesn’t hurt anyone, just as his right to assemble with those he agrees with tonight hasn’t hurt anyone.
A pole to the back of the head that leaves a man down and bleeding does hurt another individual.
The night isn’t over in Washington D.C. and abroad. Will the attacks continue? As reports regarding the protest describe a picture of unruliness, it becomes unsettling and disturbing to monitor. Will there be full blown riots by the big event? What about after the inauguration is complete and Donald Trump becomes President of the United States?
The Liberty Conservative associated editor James Allsup and all other supporters of President-elect Donald Trump should be able to celebrate their hard-earned victory without being attacked. This is America and our electoral process is completed. We have a winner and he will become President. Those opposed should seek to work through our political processes in order to ensure a smooth continuance of our governing process, instead of opting for violence and aggression.
The hateful rioting currently in progress should be denounced by all across the spectrum. A right to protest is a right to free speech and assembly, but it should never devolve into violence, leaving individuals like Allsup injured.
