Rep. Justin Amash’s ‘Never Trump’ Stances Earn Him Screen Time With Oprah Winfrey

Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) has been raising eyebrows and frustrating Republicans for quite some time because of his stubborn opposition to President Trump, fanning the flames of Russian hysteria, lending credibility to impeachment murmurs, and opposing Trump’s immigration policies. This has caused him to lose support amongst his constituents, but it has gained him one prominent admirer: the ultra-liberal talk show maven Oprah Winfrey.

Winfrey, one of Barack Obama’s most influential supporters, was spotted in Grand Rapids, MI yesterday where she met with Amash for an interview. On-lookers were surprised to see the Chicago diva strolling through the streets of quaint western Michigan.

“I asked her for a picture and when security tried to step in she shushed them away,” said Dorian Thompson, a Grand Valley State University student, in an MLive report. “I told her it was nice to meet her and jokingly said ‘now where’s my free car.’ Then she got in a black Suburban and rode away.”

Details surrounding the interview have not been released, but they will likely center around mutual opposition against Trump’s agenda. As liberals grow more desperate to torpedo his agenda, they have found a sympathetic ally in Amash–arguably the President’s fiercest critic from the Republican side of the aisle.

“I ran on a set of principles, and it doesn’t really matter which party is in charge or who the president is; I’m going to stick by my principles,” Amash said to the Huffington Post last year.

While Amash’s principles may be winning him respect and admiration from extreme leftists like Winfrey at the present moment, it remains to be seen if his conservative western Michigan constituents see him in the same light. They will have a chance to replace Amash in 2018, and Trump’s own social media director urged primary challengers for this pesky congressman earlier in the year.

  1. Could the headline be anymore leading? We should just be grateful that Justin Amash is appearing on a program that is as appealing to the general public as Oprah Winfrey.
