Nigel Farage ‘Person Of Interest’ In Russia Investigation

Brexit leader and right-libertarian firebrand Nigel Farage is said to be a ‘person of interest’ in the ongoing FBI Russia investigation, according to The Guardian, due to his association with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, U.S. President Donald Trump and controversial political strategist Roger Stone.

Farage’s spokesman responded to the report by saying it was “verging on the hysterical” and that “Nigel has never been to Russia, let alone worked with their authorities.” Farage himself went on to describe it as “utter and total hysterical nonsense” and “fake news”.

In March, Farage was seen leaving the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where Assange has sought refuge he was threatened by the British government with extradition to Sweden and the United States.

Stone’s ties to Farage go back to the Republican National Convention, where the two men had dinner, and later maintained contact, with many claiming that Farage was Stone’s claimed back channel to Assange. However, there remains little substantive evidence that this constitutes any sort of coordination between Russia, WikiLeaks and the Trump camp.

Farage also developed a friendship with President Trump during the 2016 campaign, although this later fell apart due to a spat over Trump’s missile strike in Syria.

After being deliberately sidelined by both the British government and the leadership of his own UK Independence Party, he is said to have lost considerable political influence in his home country as well. This has taken a toll on his personal life, with Farage claiming recently that he is “separated and skint”.

However, Farage has emerged as a leading figure in talk radio in the United Kingdom, as the host of The Nigel Farage Show on London’s LBC radio station, and still wields considerable influence over the country’s grassroots right.
