President Donald Trump is continuing his assault on the House Freedom Caucus after ‘Obamacare 2.0’ failed to receive a vote last week. However, the President is receiving serious backlash on social media from legislators as well as concerned constituents regarding his comments.
This morning, President Trump tweeted the following, “The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!”
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), noted libertarian Trump supporter, tweeted in response, “It’s a swamp not a hot tub. We both came here to drain it. #SwampCare polls 17%. Sad!”
Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI), a Freedom Caucus stalwart and vociferous critic of President Trump, tweeted the following, “It didn’t take long for the swamp to drain @realDonaldTrump. No shame, Mr. President. Almost everyone succumbs to the D.C. Establishment.”
When Trump re-posted his tweet on Facebook for added emphasis, the top-rated comments echoed the sentiments of the liberty-minded Representatives.
One popular comment stated, “We must unite with the freedom caucus or be deadlocked totally. Open your eyes please Mr President. You are being mislead [sic]. Big time.”
“I love you DJT but you are wrong here,” another top comment stated. “The Freedom Caucus saved this country from a terrible bill and disastrous loses [sic] in congress. We will not accept Obamacare lite.”
“We have a chance, and possibly our last chance, to make real change. That’s what the Freedom Caucus is trying to do. Please work with them,” pleaded another Trump supporter.
President Trump has even indicated that he will work with Democrats rather than the Freedom Caucus on health care and other issues. It remains to be seen if Trump will listen to constituent feedback and reconsider his stance, or just continue perpetrating the status quo that he railed against on the campaign trail as President.
