Sen. Rand Paul to Susan Rice: “Testify Under Oath” on Trump Spying Allegations

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is calling for former National Security Advisor Susan Rice to “testify under oath“ after reports broke indicating that she used her power to spy on President Trump’s associates during campaign season.

“I don’t think we should discount how big a deal it was that Susan Rice was looking at these, and she needs to be asked, did President Obama ask her to do this? Was this a directive from President Obama? I think she ought to testify under oath on this,” Paul said, according to a Hill report. “I think she should be asked under oath, did she reveal it to the Washington Post.”

This past weekend, Bloomberg View reported that Rice’s covert spying activities were discovered by the National Security Council’s senior director for intelligence, Ezra Cohen-Watnick while he was conducting a review on the “unmasking” of U.S. individuals who are monitored incidentally.

While conducting this review, Cohen-Watnick found that Rice had made an unusual amount of unmasking requests for individuals related to the Trump campaign and the Trump transition team. This information was leaked by confidential sources in the federal government to the press and gives credence to Trump’s controversial claims that he was wiretapped by the Obama administration.

As Wikileaks continues to release treasure troves of sensitive data about what government officials are really doing behind the scenes, the leaking of Rice’s unethical and possibly criminal behavior makes it very clear that the surveillance state is in full effect and that nobody should have any reasonable expectation of privacy in the digital age.

“Let’s ask [Susan Rice] why she was opening up all of the conversations with Trump transition figures,” Paul said.

It remains to be seen if Rice will ever respond to Paul’s requests, or if serious Congressional investigations will be launched regarding the legality of her actions.
